When NSH opened in 2002, it was the first private subspecialty hospital in the UAE. Not a general hospital that added a neurology wing - a hospital built specifically for neuro, spinal, orthopaedic, and oncological care from day one. That founding identity still defines what the hospital does best over two decades later.

Two technology milestones define NSH's standing in the region. First: it was the first hospital in the Middle East to acquire the latest generation CyberKnife and Radixact Systems - radiation therapy platforms capable of treating tumours with sub-millimetre precision without open surgery. Second: the operating rooms are equipped with intraoperative MRI, allowing surgeons to see real-time imaging of the brain or spine during surgery without moving the patient. Both are rare. Together, they make NSH the most technologically advanced neurosurgical facility in Dubai for complex cases.

The campus in Dubai Science Park is purpose-built for patient recovery. Neurosurgery and Spine Surgery are the core programs at NSH - everything else is built around these two. The Back Pain and Spinal Unit covers disc herniation, spondylosis, scoliosis, kyphosis, spinal instability, and spinal tumors. The Brain Surgery Unit handles brain tumors, vascular malformations, aneurysms, epilepsy surgery, and complex skull base cases. All spinal and brain surgeries are performed with image guidance, neuronavigation, intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring, and, where applicable, intraoperative MRI feedback. The Joint Replacement Surgery department handles hip and knee replacement using minimally invasive techniques with full physiotherapy and rehabilitation support post-surgery.

The NSH CyberKnife Cancer Center is the most significant oncology development in the hospital's history. CyberKnife treats brain tumors, spinal tumors, and certain body tumors with pinpoint radiation - no incisions, no general anaesthesia for most cases, and treatment often completed in one to five sessions. The Radixact system is complemented by a broader radiotherapy platform. For cancer treatment in Dubai, patients who have been told they are not surgical candidates often find CyberKnife opens a treatment path that wasn't available elsewhere.
